Moorhen Shot Dead at Earlswood Lakes in Surrey
A £500 reward has been put up for grabs after a nesting Moorhen was shot dead at the well known lakes at Redhill, Surrey.
The Surry Police have said the bird was shot twice with lead pellets, probably from an airgun. PC Jo Dootson, Wildlife Officer for the area said, “I am sure residents of Earlswood will be disgusted by the attack on a defenceless bird.”
She has said that the Police will seek to find and prosecute those responsible under the Wildlife & Countryside Act.
Its not known if the bird was breeding with youngsters but it seems to reflect our society where the care and understanding of wild animals within our schools is of a low priority.
